COMMUNITY developmenT

INLAND EMPIRE TECHNICAL TRADE CENTER

We held our Inland Empire Technical Trade Center (IETTC) Executive Advisory Council meeting. As previously shared, there were multiple focus group meetings held with stakeholders such as labor, private sector, public sector, JUSD students, and more.

We keep moving forward with planning, funding, logo selection, and more collaboratively with all regional and state partners. Moving residents from poverty to prosperity.

VETERANS DAY PARADE

We're excited for our first Veteran's Day Celebration! The City has been working in partnership with JARPD, Flabob, JUSD, RSO, CalFire, Jurupa Lions, and our local VFW to plan this community event!

The portal to apply to participate in the Parade is:

https://www.jarpd.org/veterans-parade-app

We are encouraging all organizations, nonprofits, youth leagues, and more to be a part of this great community event!

JURUPA VALLEY PRO RODEO

We've begun the planning for the return of the Jurupa Valley Pro Rodeo. Thank you to Linda, Laura, Alejandra, Laurie, Morgan, and Stacy for their valuable input and time thus far. We'll be looking to create sub-committees soon.

We are tentatively looking at the second weekend of June 2023. The tentative plans at this time would be Friday and Saturday fully sanctioned PRCA Rodeo with youth activities, Queen pageant, and more. Sunday having Escaramuzas, Charreada, and more.

More to come including opportunities for the community to participate in the planning and running of the Rodeo!

Thank you to my friend Laurie Bakewell for the @jurupavalleyprorodeo documents and gear! We're moving ahead with planning fundraisers and reaching out to sponsors. I have the list of everyone who emailed me a few months back, if you're interested in helping and haven't reached out, please email me at cbarajas@jurupavalley.org

infrastructure

The current Council, as recently shared, has made the largest investment in infrastructure allocating over $20 million of our ARPA funds to our roads!

Council Meeting Highlight: During last night's meeting, the Jurupa Valley city council approved a construction agreement of over $2 Million to be used for citywide pavement rehabilitation.

The project consists of grinding and overlaying streets, reconstruction of curbs and gutters, sidewalks, driveway approaches, as well as paving with rubberized asphalt pavement and adjusting the manholes and water valves to grade and striping.

The project locations are Limonite from Felspar Street to Pedley Road, Jurupa road from Agate Street to Galena Street, Rubidoux from Highway 60 to 29th Street and Agate Street from Jurupa Road to Mission Boulevard.

This funding is in addition to the approximately $20 Million that city council has already allocated to street improvements through ARPA

Mission Bridge Replacement

The County of Riverside, in cooperation with the Cities of Riverside and Jurupa Valley, proposes to replace the existing Mission Boulevard Bridge over the Santa Ana River. The proposed project will accommodate two 12-foot lanes, two 14-foot lanes, two 8-foot shoulders, and a 4-foot median. A 12- foot multipurpose trail with barrier separation from vehicular traffic will be located along the south side of the bridge in lieu of standard sidewalks on each side.

The new bridge will be approximately 88 feet wide and 1,100 feet long. The replacement bridge profile will be raised slightly to accommodate current standards for the roadway design. At mid-span, the profile will be approximately 4 to 6 feet higher than the existing bridge. Learn more about the project.

Market Bridge Replacement

The County of Riverside, in cooperation with the Cities of Riverside and Jurupa Valley, proposes to replace the existing Market Street Bridge over the Santa Ana River. A new 4-lane bridge will be provided to enhance public safety and traffic circulation in the area. The work will include reconstructing approach roadways, providing necessary channel improvements, and a multi-purpose trail connecting to the existing and proposed regional trails. The new bridge will be approximately 88 feet wide and 1,200 feet long. Learn more about the project.

Visit the link above for a full list of projects. I've asked staff to work on creating a more user friendly map by introducing interactivity through a GIS map instead of a flat file. More to come.

A huge thanks to the Jurupa District Lions Club #2659 and all the sponsors of their Backpack Giveaway! The Jurupa Lions distributed 400 backpacks with school supplies and some candy to students throughout our community! #weserve #jurupavalley

City Staff and I had the opportunity to tour the Stringfellow site. There was a presentation providing a brief overview of the history including what is currently being done at the site and the various wells they have throughout the City.

We are currently working with DTSC to remove the hazardous waste from Exide and expect the process to take 4 to 5 months if not sooner.

Each year, the cities of Eastvale, Norco, and Jurupa Valley team up to hold a joint National Night Out with Jurupa Valley Sheriff's Station and CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department! This year the City of Eastvale was host and they, with JCSD, held an outstanding #NNO!

My family and I attended along with many friends and residents. The live bands were amazing and most importantly, our residents had an opportunity to strengthen their bonds with our LEO's and Firefighters among many more.

Looking forward to next year's event which will be hosted by the City of Norco.

I had the opportunity to share an update with the Jurupa District Lions Club #2659 regarding our upcoming City Veterans Day Parade! The Jurupa Lions are a Parade Committee Member along with VFW Post 10267, Jurupa , JARPD, Flabob, JUSD, and more! More information coming soon such as the process to be in the parade, route, etc.

If you want to join the Jurupa Lions and serve our community be sure to let me know!

We had a wonderful evening at the Jurupa District Lions Club #2659 Luau and Board Installation at our local VFW Post 10267, Jurupa! Thank you to my fellow Lions for the opportunity to serve on the Board of Directors this coming year. The Jurupa Lions are committed to serving our community and participate and/or serve on multiple event committee such as the Veterans Day Parade, JARPD Snow Day, Community Cleanups, the return of the Jurupa Valley Rodeo, and much more! Be sure to follow the Jurupa Lions page to stay up to date with events, fundraisers, bingo, Bunco, and much more.

I had the honor of attending Center for Community Action and Environmental Justice Grand Opening of their Community Center! Starting from its founding by Community Champion, Executive Director (Ret.), and current Jurupa Valley Planning Commissioner Penny Newman, to today, with current Executive Director Ana Gonzalez and her amazing team, CCAEJ continues to champion community advocacy at all levels. This new Community Center will be an invaluable asset for our residents and surrounding communities in providing a space to learn and build community. #jurupavalley
